Bio
Briefly about me (Long Bio below):
I grew up in rural Mississippi. Graduated High School and joined the Marines. I Spent 3 years on Presidential Security and 3 years working for the State Department overseas. After my enlistment was up I sold insurance products and was one of the top producers in the country. I decided to re-enlist into the Army in 2005 so that I could go to Iraq. The recruiter didn’t object. So, I spent 3 years with the 82nd Airborne Division on back to back deployments. I have been all over the world speaking, training, fighting, and just dealing with the grit of life to a point where I believe that I have a very unique perspective that you can grow to appreciate. So now, I am just sitting back thinking for a living. So if you want to find me Email: [ im @ Dekeither dot com ] or call 559.DEK.EITHER (559-335-3484).
The Long Story
I was born on 21 November 1976. I was 3 months premature and only weighed 2 Lbs. I had many medical problems growing up ranging from bad lungs to 2 feet turned the wrong way. I was sort of like Forrest Gump with the braces on my feet. Medical care wasn’t that great in the 70’s in Mississippi, but the Lord saw me through it. I grew up in Learned, MS (population 114). My parents split up when I was 1. I lived with my Mother until I was 6, and then moved in with my Father. WE married my 2nd Mother when I was 12. She’s great!! WE made a good decision there. I enlisted in the Marines in 1994, and received orders to be a Military Policeman. During my training I was selected to be a Presidential Security Guard. Who would though that a country boy from Learned, MS would be traveling with the President of the United States? I spent the next 3 years going to almost every state in the union, and 18 countries overseas.
My next tour sent me to American Embassy Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. (If you forgot, this embassy was blown up on August 8, 1998 @ 9:07 AM) I spent the next 15 months working in several different capacities for the State Department throughout that area of the world. Form there I went to the U.S. Mission in Geneva, Switzerland. This was truly a change of pace. I worked there for a little while, went to the American Embassy in London, England. This was where I finished my duties with the State Department.
My final duty station was MCAS Miramar in San Diego, CA. I was a patrol supervisor for a 34 man Patrol. I was Honorably Discharged from the Marines in 2002.
My transition was easy, I was a salesman. I quickly became one of the top salesmen/ recruiters in the country. I moved back to Mississippi and opened up my own office. Soon we were the top office in the country.
By this time the war was in full bloom, and I started to feel that I still had something left to give. There is something about the call to serve that just draws on you. After a few months of beating around the bush I told all of my business associates that I was going to go re-enlist. They were shocked, and some were even mad. So in 2005 I walked into the recruiter’s office with all of my paperwork in hand, and he was shocked when I told him I wanted to go directly to Iraq. The Marines like to put people who have unique skill sets back into special operations. This was not in my plan. I wanted to lead regular soldiers in combat. So, the Army gladly accommodated my request. 2 weeks after reporting to my unit in the 82nd Airborne Division I was leaving for my first deployment. I was deployed 24 of my 28 months at Fort
Bragg. I was a patrol leader of a 17 man, 4 vehicle patrol on the ground in Iraq. This really grew me as a leader. This is because in special operations you have a different type of person. Here I had a bunch of men & women that were just put together. They were great. I really appreciate each and every one of them. We went through a lot together.
So now I am just a regular guy trying to be the best Christian, Father, and Friend that I can be.
I don’t have a PhD in anything. What I do have is a particular set of skills that I have acquired over a long career. These experiences have given me unique perspective on life in areas of Family, Personal Security, Business, Survival, Emergency Preparedness, the Military, Leadership, People, and many more.
I am a firm believer that you must love your entire life, if you are to love yourself. This is because the good and bad made you who you are today. So, if you love you, you have to love ALL of it. You must love your strengths and your weaknesses, successes and failures. So this is me, the big eared guy from the country with a few ideas to share. Oh for those of you looking for a list of credentials, I have attended all kinds of schools both military and civilian. I could put letters before and after my name, but I’m happy with De’Keither. If that’s okay with you.
