Michael Phelps is an imperfect man, just like the rest of us. The world will build you up, just to tear you down. You can smoke weed and be a governor, senator, congressman, even president, but not a swimmer. Oh no. We just can’t have that. Not swimming.
Michael Phelps, go out and do great things. You have a unique skill set that the rest of us don’t. 2 months from now the world will have forgiven you. You can coach swimming forever. People will still pay you big bucks to coach their kids. Keep writing books because people will buy them. Continue to hone your craft and adjust fire. Even though the media and society are ridding you, it will stop. Some other celebrity will do something stupid and they will focus on them. Then when you bounce back, they will parade you again as the comeback story. So, dust yourself off, and get back to whatever it is you do (other than weed).
See the thing about being in the top 1% that no one knows. It is that you can transfer that focus to another industry and win again. You were due a re-invention anyway. The chances of you breaking your record were slim. Even if you continued swimming society wouldn’t have been content. They would have wanted more. Then when you didn’t produce, they would rip you up. Now move on to your next success. Hey, this is just an idea…..

Well said. My friend and mentor T.R. Mencken gave a similar “pick yourself up and dust yourself off” kinda message. As sensational a news piece as this has been. I really don’t want to see the guy sink into a deep depression or anything.
He grew up just a few miles from where I am and I’m in his current neighborhood all the time. I drive past the school where Mom Deb Phelps is principal.
Anyhow, nice site you got here. We should work together a bit, kinda like a east coast, west coast, cross promotion kinda bit.
